Jewels Safe Haven was started by a girl with a promise. To help those in need without a voice. Our Founder, Alexa Langsdorf started the rescue because of a deaf pitbull named Jewel. She had been in a shelter for basically her whole life. Jewel was in the shelter from 5 months old till 6 years old. 5 and a half years living in the same kennel, watching dogs and staff come and go. Jewel was looked over due to her energy level, her breed, and her special needs, but Alexa was always there in her corner cheering her on. Alexa finally adopted Jewel and was able to give her the forever home she deserved. Since then Alexa has vowed to help those who are overlooked just like Jewel was and find them their forever home. Thanks to the help of family and friends, Jewels Safe Haven Rescue Inc. was able to become a reality in February of 2022, the month Jewel was born.
What We Are About
Values & Goals
Our core values include finding animals a forever home no matter their size or species as well as educating the public about proper animal care and common behavioral issues. Our goal is to ensuring that all of the animals in our care are given a true second chance.
We are Foster Based across Long Island
Our pets are all along Long Island. Most of our events and programs for volunteers are located around Riverhead, NY.
We are in the red with funding due to a few unexpected medical situations, any and all donations are welcome!!
What Sets Us Apart
We can be set apart by our hands-on approach with each of our animals. Every dog goes through a rigorous behavioral evaluation that includes body handling, resource guarding, and finding their motivators. All of our cats are socialized with care to make them good indoor pets. Our small animals are given adequate husbandry, which unfortunately is a higher standard than most other places.
